Some nerd-o facts:
This is an old model from 2.49, except for Suzanne bull-head which I whipped up today. Rendered in yesterday's daily build, using this image as an environment texture with an emitting plane as well, everything else is basically defaults. Raw render, no post pro.

I could have sworn this guy had hair, but who knows where that is 3 years later!

Blender + Kiku voice recognition

This is a quick demonstration of kiku voice recognition software and Blender 3D. There are currently about 90 voice commands, based around modeling/rigging, but the commands will work in other modes as well, eg "face" which invokes the F key will make a face in edit mode but will also Make Links in the node editor. This said, one can add multiple commands to invoke a key, see "vertical" and "wire," which both call the Z key.

To keep things safe there is no "quit" or "new" command.

If I missed anything important, or a user wants to change keys, feel free to modify the commands to your liking, it's very simple :)

We are lucky today that there are no leaves on the trees, there'd hardly be any left standing. I took a drive to the library this afternoon, traffic lights were out, trees down, police everywhere, craziness. The library's internets were down, so the usual group of people weren't crowded around the computers. I said to the librarian: "Wow, it sure is nice and quiet here today," and as soon as I did the power went out- she just said "Look at what you did." It was great, walking around the books in low light. I felt bad for the librarians though, there was a constant barrage of incoming calls inquiring about their internet. It's like the goddam Dark Ages around here when the www is cut off!

*As a side note, I remember once as a kid I had a Radio Shack circuit kit, with the springs and wires that connected the parts, and I had been working on some project, I think it was radio-based, and as soon as I hooked up the battery the lights went out, another weird coincidence, OR NOT?

Level 1 Spellweaver

For some reason I'm nostalgic for the old D&D days lately, and I remember the best part of creating characters was drawing them. I also remember never actually playing much at all, so my characters were always stuck at Level 1. So, I'm thinking of doing a series of Level 1 characters, here is the first:

Level 1 Spellweaver, off on her first adventure. She is equipped with some of her Grandma's old hand-me-down stale potions, tinctures, and powders; nobody remembers what they do or if they are still any good. She made her own staff because she had a crappy money roll, and blew most of her gold pieces on the red scarf, instead of something practical like 50' of rope.

Charles O'Shaughnessy was a great innovator of safety, shown here demonstrating that his double-leather gloves, while protecting one's hands, were also dextrous enough to handle a delicate flower. Unfortunately, and some say ironically, during a race he downshifted into a hard turn, and the sudden deceleration caused his right padded glove to bump his eject button, thereby launching him into the turbine engine of a trailing Rocket Racer. He died. And his gloves were shredded.
